The IT side to mobility design

Ensuring mobility is the core competency of Daimler. Car IT connects the car as the largest personal device with other mobile devices, while Mobility IT also focuses on new mobility concepts such as car2go and moovel. The combination of relevant technical automotive processes with technological expertise makes Daimler TSS an ideal partner, as the goal is to develop new business models, both in terms of individual analysis and linking of the two issues. Our understanding of Car IT encompasses the entire communication path from the car to the outside world, networking of a vehicle with its environment and the possibility that this vehicle can communicate with it. An understanding of upstream and downstream systems and interfaces is a fundamental prerequisite for the successful implementation of integrated IT solutions in mobility.

Flexibility and a maximum degree of adaptability are required to adjust with speed to the rapid development of new technologies, processes and methods. The car2go mobility concept provides smart fortwo vehicles which, following initial registration, can be rented spontaneously and at any time - with no rental contract, basic charge or minimum rental period.

Concept and development: Daimler TSS is responsible for IT-related implementation of the business process - from rental to billing. This includes backend systems, the customer portal and billing and reporting systems. In addition, Daimler TSS has developed the interface to backend systems, the Telematics & Connectivity Unit (better known as TCU), and is currently working on the design of the next telematics generation.

Reference project: Mercedes me app

With the development of the Mercedes me app, we provide Mercedes customers with an easy-to-use interface for accessing their vehicle. Vehicle functions such as door opening/locking, auxiliary heating, fuel level and many more can be comfortably controlled as a result. The app is also the entry point to the Mercedes me world, offering many other services relating to the vehicle and mobility. To achieve this, we combine a powerful and secured backbone with the ease of use of a native app for iOS and Android.
