Daimler TSS presents car2go at the 4th German National IT Summit

On the 8th of December, Stuttgart played host to the 4th German National IT Summit, where business meets technology. This summit was graced with the presence of some Federal Ministers such as Rainer Brüderle, the Federal Minister for Economics and Technology, and also Dr. Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor.

On the eve of the summit, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, touched on the subject of car2go during his welcoming address at the reception. Daimler TSS is responsible for the IT implementation for car2go, and here he also emphasized the importance of this new mobility concept: „The car2go project shows us today that: when you combine high performance IT and employees with good ideas, almost nothing is impossible.“

The central theme of the IT summit on the next day was the discussion on the new information and communications technology (ICT) strategy for Germany’s digital future. The German Federal Government has decided to come up with this strategy by the end of summer 2010. In his welcoming address, Rainer Brüderle praised the car2go project and mentioned the car2go booth which was also part of the summit.

Daimler TSS showcased the car2go mobility concept and this was one of the few exhibits which were presented at the 4th German National IT Summit. The exhibits were used to portray how ICT can be used to tackle global challenges on a large scale and also how it can support structural changes, including those in areas such as mobility. As a project implemented with the help of IT and an innovative concept, car2go was mentioned by Rainer Brüderle in his address as a successful example of a possible answer to the changes taking place in today’s mobility landscape.

In the afternoon, the Federal Minister for Economics and Technology decided to personally visit the Daimler TSS booth to obtain more information about the car2go project. The executive board of Daimler TSS was more than happy to provide him with the details and even Dr. Michael Gorriz, CIO of the Daimler group, was present at the booth to get a better idea of the current developments in the project and lauded Daimler TSS’ vital contribution as part of the Daimler’s IT organization in the IT implementation of the car2go concept.
